Jersey y patucos para niño / Sweater and booties for a baby boy

Until the moment almost every thing I have knitted for babies were things for girls so I was already willing to change for a while and make something for a boy.

It is true that it seems that it is easier to find things for girls but there are also very pretty things for baby boys.

My idea was to knit something in garter stitch because it is my favorite stitch for baby clothes (it looks so cute in any garment) so I decided myself for this baby set of sweater and booties by Phildar.

The sweater is very simple but it is also very easy to match and it fits well with almost everything: pants, a pyjama, bloomers... and matching baby booties add the final touch.

I am already picturing a lot of identic knitted baby sweaters in different colours, wouldn't they be adorable?

When I went to Edinburgh I didn't buy too many things (travelling only with hand luggage can be a disadvantage  sometimes...) but something I couldn't come back without were craft magazines.

On my list I had included at least one issue of Prima Makes (one of my favorite magazines since I discovered it on a trip to Malta) but unfortunately I didn't find it anywhere. I hope it was a problem of publishing date and that they haven't stop making it as for me it is a compulsory purchase whenever I step into an English speaking airport or country.

However this small disappointment didn't last for too long because I did find the last issue of Mollie Makes (another one of my favorite magazines and also a regular purchase when I am abroad) and  Simply Crochet which until the moment I had never bought before.

As usual Mollie Makes magazine proposes a lot of projects of different styles (felt, crochet, sewing, paper...) and some articles that encourage us to live our life in a more creative way.

In addition it included two gifts that I find very useful for 2016: a calendar with 12 craft projects designed by Emily Quinton and a set of calligraphy stickers by Lamplighter London to mark special moments.

In the case of Simply Crochet, as its name shows, the magazine is only focused on crochet projects although it propose all kind of ideas: home decor, accesories, amigurumi, clothes...

This magazine also included a gift, some ribbon to customise and label crochet projects,  I can't like this  idea enough.

In both cases there are also a lot of Christmas inspired ideas but, just as what happened last year with the magazines I bought in London, I didn't have enough time to put them into practice.

I guess that the good side is that I can always use them for inspiration next year...

Chai

Last week when I showed you my Hibiscus hat I told you that thanks to it I was taking part in the (Virtual) Tea Party a KAL full of surprises and gifts.

The big giveaway will take place after December 31st but I've been so lucky to win one of the previous surprise gifts, a pattern of my choice from  Clare Devine's Tea Collection.

Although I like all the patterns, it wasn't too difficult to decide because Chai hat had already caught my attention, in addition to having the name of one of my favorite teas I loved it for its huge pom pom.

To make it I used some balls of wool from Phildar Nebuleuse which I had had for a while so I have also contributed to reducing my stash a little bit (I am making some progresses...).

Now I am waiting to wear it in this cold winter that is taking its time to arrive...

Happy (Crafting) Weekend

I think I am losing the battle against my stash...

Yesterday I spent the day in Bilbao and I took the opportunity to visiting  Tricotoki a craft shop and atelier which I've been wanting to know so hard and I couldn't resist the temptation and I ended up buying five beautiful balls of  Katia yarn.

Somehow I have an excuse because I usually make all my knitting purchases via Internet (where I live I can only find very basic things) so buying in a physical store is an opportunity to watch, touch and nose around among balls of yarn and I cannot miss the chance.

In fact as soon as I can I have to come back to Tricotoki for a more in depth visit.

I will see if knitting a little bit I can make my guilty feeling pass...

Have a nice weekend!

Hibiscus

Finally the moment has arrived and I can show you the result of the hat I've knitted with the wool and the pattern I bought at Ginger Twist Studio in Edinburgh, just in time to add a touch of colour (and heat) to the really cold days we are having in the North lately.

As I alredy advanced you a couple of weeks ago the pattern I've used is  Hibiscus by Clare Devine and it is part of the  Tea Collection a compilation of wool hats and cowls patterns which name is inspired in different types of tea (Hibiscus, Earl Grey, Lapsang, Chai...), a very original idea that I, as a true tea lover, like a lot.

Knitting the hat has been very amusing but it also allowed me to take part in a virtual KAL organised by Clare Devine herself called  (Virtual) Tea Party and which includes the possibility of winning different prizes among the people taking part on it (you can find more information on social networks under the hashtags  #knitsharelove and #teacollectionhats).

I am sure that now you are craving for a nice cup of tea...

Happy (Crafting) Weekend

¿Qué tal lleváis vosotros/as vuestros regalos de Navidad hechos a mano?

The project I told you about last week is going really well and, unless there is a last minute setback, I will be able to finish it next week.

At first I thought it would take me longer but the pattern is very easy and it is perfect for those moments when I want to knit but I don't want to think too much so now that I have different projects started at the same time it is my beside project.

Many of my ongoing projects are Christmas gifts so I am a little bit stressed because I still have to finish some things but this year I've been foresighted and I have started early enough, so I don't think I will have any problem to finish everything on time.

How are you doing with your handmade Christmas gifts?

Regalitos para bebés / Wee little gifts for babies

Lately I've been making many baby projects and the truth is I can't complain because you already now that it is one of the things I like the most.

One of these projects was a crochet rattle (following the idea of the one I made this summer and which I showed you here) for a newborn baby girl called Laia.

This time instead of a bunny the animal I chose for the rattle was a yellow little duck that in addition came with two tricotin names, Laia's and that of her little brother Ander.

I am personally a great fan of handmade gifts (I love to give and to receive them) and this kind of little gifts are among my favorites because with very little they cheer up the day of the person who receives them.

Happy (Crafting) Weekend

Today is a special friday because the weekend comes with two extra days (I'm very lucky to enjoy a long bank holiday :) ) so I will have more time to work in my woolly projects.

I have already finished some of them and I only have to make the corresponding photo shooting but I also have some recently started ideas that are helping me with my objective of reducing stash.

While I keep finishing things I leave you a small hint of the colours of my next project...

Happy weekend!

Craft Books ♥ 6 - Crochet Home by Emma Lamb

Just before my trip to Edinburgh I told you how much I like Emma Lamb and as she is from there I thought it would be a good idea to buy  her recently published " Crochet Home" book  during the trip.

However, I discovered that if I bought the book directly on her website I could have a signed copy and this still seemed a much better idea, so I didn't hesitate a second.

When I finally had the book in my hands I didn't regret my decision as the packaging was beautiful, one of those so pretty packagings that you feel sorry to open although you know that you will love what it is inside.

Before buying it I didn't have any doubt but now that I have it and I've been able to look at it calmly I can only confirm that the book is wonderful, it is Emma Lamb in her pure state with her infinite colour palette and her vintage style.

Of course that among the 20 projects included I have my favorites (garlands are my weakness...) but I would love to make them all sometime.

Can you imagine how cool it would be to fill your house with multicolour garlands?

Cosas que me gustan / Things I like # 29 - Marled Cocoon Scarf

I hate cold weather and I would love to live in a warm climate all year long but I recognise that cold also has some charm specially if we treat ourselves into getting wrapped by a knitted garment as wonderful as the Marled Cocoon Scarf by  Knit Collage.

Don't tell me you don't love it?

It seems clear that in  Knit Collage they know very well which is the trick to make winter easier so I think it is the moment to rescue my  Tinkerbell Cowl and see whether I can forget how cold it is...

En proceso / Work in progress

After a weekend full of rain and snow in the mountains I assume winter has just begun and I have started knitting Hibiscus hat with the yarn I bought in Edinburgh.

It is knitted quicker than I thought so if I don't take too much time to block it I will be able to wear it before the end of the week.

I leave you to continue knitting...

Mis DIY favoritos / My favorite DIYs # 18 - Waffel Hat

The first wool hat I knitted was Waffel Hat by  Pickles, a hat with a very original pattern which I fell in love with at first sight.

At that moment my knitting skills were limited to knitting with straight needles so I found the idea of using circular needles very interesting.

I don't remember exactly how long it took me to make it but it had to be little time because I was super excited knitting without a break and seeing how it looked after each round I made.

The wool I chose to knit it was Rowan Cocoon an incredibly soft and warm wool that I could say is the official wool of all my knitted hats as it is the same I used to knit  Take Heart hat.

Today it is still one of my favorite hats, my loyal friend during cold days because due to its design and colour it matches with everything.

After my disappointment last year when I wasn't able to visit Loop in London, when I planned my trip to Edinburgh I included a yarn shop on my list of places of obliged visit.

As I didn't know where to start from a couple of weeks before I asked  Emma Lamb for some information through her Instagram account and she kindly gave the name of two shops: Ginger Twist Studio and  Be Inspired Fibres.

Luckily, Ginger Twist Studio was very near to the place I was staying in so I popped in one afternoon and met charming Jess (you can see her inside the shop in the first picture and in picture shown in the pattern).

The shop is not very big but it is full of small temptations, specially patterns and yarn handyed by Jess herself.

Among all that wonder I didn't know what to choose so, as I wasn't going to check my luggage and I didn't want to make my resolution of reducint stash more difficult, I finally decided to buy a hat pattern, only one skein to knit it and a tote bag from the shop.

Although I haven't yet started the hat it makes me very happy to think that every time I will wear it I will think of Edinburgh and the shop, it is going to be a very special hat.

As soon as I start knitting it I promise to write a full detailed post because both the pattern and the wool are worth it.

I will keep you informed...

Cute things come in threes

The first baby sweater a knitted was a design by  Erika Knight (I told you about it here) and although it has been a long time since then it still remains one of my favorite projects.

This summer I was asked to make two of them to give as a present for two twins (hence the title of this post) and I am sure that some day I will make it again because I can't think of a better gift for a newborn.
