Ikea hacks # 4 - Funda de ganchillo cajón KNAGGLIG / KNAGGLIG box crochet cover (II)

Tal y como os adelantaba en mi entrada anterior, recientemente he personalizado un cajón de madera KNAGGLIG de IKEA con una funda de ganchillo hecha con trapillo.

Es una idea muy fácil de hacer que no requiere mucha complicación (si se sabe hacer ganchillo, obviamente) pero, al mismo tiempo, puede resultar muy práctica además de decorativa.

Así, si utilizamos la funda como base sirve de protector de los tornillos que sujetan las piezas (evitando rallones en las superficies donde apoyemos la caja) y si la utilizamos como tapa protegemos del polvo las cosas que guardemos dentro.

As I already told you on my previous post, recently I've customised a IKEA KNAGGLIG box with a crochet cover made with zpagetti.

It is a very easy to make idea with not much complication (if you know how to crochet, obviously) but, at the same time, it can be very practical in addition to being decorative.

So, if we use the cover as underneath base it serves as protection for the screws joining the pieces (avoiding scratches on the surfaces where we leave the box) and if we use it as top cover we can protect from the dust the things we keep inside.

MATERIALES

Hilo: Una bobina grande de trapillo (aproximadamente 1 kg)

Aguja: Aguja de ganchillo 12 mm

Punto utilizado: Punto alto y punto bajo

MATERIALS

Yarn: One large zpagetti bobbin (approximately 1 kg / 2.20 pounds)

Hook: 12 mm crochet hook

Stitches used: Double and single crochet 

INSTRUCCIONES

IMPORTANTE: El número de puntos y las medidas son indicativas ya que dependiendo del grosor y calidad del trapillo el resultado puede ser diferente. Es posible que haya que realizar algún ajuste a medida que se va realizando la funda.

• Montar 25 puntos de cadeneta
• Empezando en el tercer punto desde el final, realizar un punto alto en cada punto de cadeneta (22 puntos)
• Continuar trabajando en punto alto durante 8 vueltas o hasta que la pieza mida 20 cm de alto (22 puntos)
• No cortar el hilo

INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT: The number of stitches and the measures are indicative as depending on the thickness and quality of the zpagetti yarn the result can vary. It is possible that some adjustments are needed while working on the cover.

• Cast on 25 chain stitches
• Starting on the third stitch from the end, make a double crochet stich on each chain stitch (22 stitches)
• Continue working on double crochet during 8 rounds or until the piece measures 20 cm / 8 inches height (22 stitches)
• Do not cut the yarn.

• Realizar un punto bajo en cada punto alrededor de la pieza de forma que queden 24 puntos en los laterales más largos y 18 puntos en los más cortos (84 puntos)
• No cortar el hilo

• Make one single crochet on each stitch around the piece so you have 24 stitches on the longer sides and 18 stitches on the shorter ones (84 stitches)
• Do not cut the yarn

• Realizar 3 puntos de cadeneta y realizar un punto alto en cada punto bajo reduciendo un punto en cada esquina. Es decir, cuando lleguemos a las esquinas hay que hacer un punto alto sobre dos puntos bajos (80 puntos)
• Realizar 3 puntos de cadeneta y  realizar un punto alto en cada punto durante dos vueltas o hasta que mide 8 cm de alto (80 puntos)
• Realizar un punto bajo en cada punto (80 puntos)
• Cerrar los puntos y cortar el hilo

• Make 3 chain stitches and make one double crochet stitch on each single stitch reducing one stitch on each corner. That is, when we arrive to the corners we have to make one double crochet over two single crochet stitches (80 stitches)
• Make 3 chain stitches and make one double crochet stitch on each stitch during two rounds or until it is 8 cm / 3 inches height (80 stitches)
• Make one single crochet on each stitch (80 stitches)
• Close the stitches and cut the yarn

• Cortar 4 tiras de trapillo de unos 70 cm de largo y utilizarlas para fijar la funda en cada esquina de la caja con una lazada

• Cut 4 zpagetti strips of approximately 70 cm / 27.5 inches long and use them to fix the cover on each corner of the box with a lace

Ikea hacks # 4 - Funda de ganchillo cajón KNAGGLIG / KNAGGLIG box crochet cover (I)

Después de varios meses por fin puedo enseñaros el resultado del proyecto de trapillo del que os hablé a principios de abril.

La idea de partida del proyecto era doble: personalizar un cajón de madera KNAGGLIG de IKEA y, al mismo tiempo, hacer algo con el trapillo que tengo por casa (porque si el tema de reducir el stash  de ovillos lana es complicado, cuando se trata de trapillo se convierte en misión imposible...).

La verdad es que no he hecho muchas cosas con trapillo (casualmente una de ellas es la funda de ganchillo del taburete BEKVÄM tambien de IKEA) y no recordaba lo mucho que cuesta trabajarlo. En serio, me dolían los dedos de tanto darle a la aguja de ganchillo...

En este caso, además de ser una funda decorativa también tiene más de una finalidad práctica, así que muy pronto os explicaré paso a paso cómo hacer vuestra propia funda de ganchillo con todos los detalles.

P.D: Con respecto al trapillo, ya tengo ideas de mini  proyectos para ir dando uso a mis bobinas sin que me cueste una lesión en la mano.


After several months I can finally show you the result of the zpagetti project I told you about at the beginning of April.

The starting idea for this project was double: to customize a KNAGGLIG IKEA box and, at the same time, to make something with the zpagetti I have at home (because if the subject of reducing the stash of wool skeins is difficult, when we talk about zpagetti it becomes an impossible mission...).

The truth is I haven't done many things with zpagetti (by chance one of them is a crochet cover for BEKVÄM stool which is also from IKEA) and I didn't remember how hard it is to work with it. Seriously, my fingers ached after using the crochet hook so much...

In this case, in addition to being a decorative cover it also has more than one practical use, so very soon I will explain you how to make your own crochet cover step by step with all the details.

P.S: As far as zpagetti is concerned, I already have some ideas of mini projects in order to use my bobbins without suffering a hand injury.

De compras en Nueva York / Shopping in New York - marimekko

Sé que marimekko es una marca finlandesa pero me encantan sus diseños y nunca había tenido la oportunidad de visitar una de sus tiendas así que al verla en la 5ª Avenida, justo enfrente del edificio Flatiron, no pude resistirme a entrar.

La tienda es una auténtica maravilla con todo tipo de productos: ropa, decoración, accesorios, telas... Si conocéis la marca sabréis que la gama de precios es un poco elevada y es cierto que en IKEA hay telas con diseños muy similares pero en mi opinión marimekko tiene mucho encanto y, sin lugar a dudas, merece la pena.

Me enamoré de un par de vestidos, algún bolso y de este abrigo rosa chicle... pero al final no compré nada (un poco por el precio pero también porque no sabía por qué decidirme).

Eso sí, si alguna vez viajo a Finlandia estará en mi lista de visitas obligadas y no va a haber excusa para no comprar algo.

I know that  marimekko is a Finnish brand but I love their designs and I had never had the chance to visit one of their shops so when I saw it at the 5th Avenue, just opposite the Flatiron building, I couldn't resist coming in.

The shop is a true wonder with all kind of products: clothing, home decor, accesories, fabrics... If you know the brand you will know that the price range is a little bit high and it is true that there are fabrics with similar patterns at IKEA but in my opinion  marimekko is really charming and, without a doubt, it is worth it.

I fell in love with a couple of dresses, some bags and this bubble gum pink coat... but in the end I didn't buy anything (a little bit because of the price but also because I didn't know what to choose).

One thing is clear, if I ever travel to Finland it would be on my must-go visits and there will be no excuse to buy something.

Mis DIY favoritos / My favorite DIYs # 24 - Washi Tape dispenser

Como buena amante de las manualidades tengo una ligera adicción al washi tape. Tengo rollos de todos los colores y estampados aunque, como ya os podéis imaginar, muchos nunca son suficientes.

Hay muchas opciones para guardarlos (en mi caso un tarro de cristal IKEA) pero si os apetece darle un toque DIY podéis coger la idea de la genial Pfefferminzgruen y hacer vuestro propio portarrollos de washi tape.

As a real crafts lover I have a slight addiction to washi tape. I have rolls in every colour and print although, as you can imagine, many are never enough.

There are many options to keep them organised (in my case an IKEA jar) but if you want to add your own DIY touch you can follow the idea of the great  Pfefferminzgruen and make your own washi tape dispenser.

Cosas que me gustan / Things I like # 34 - IKEA SKÅDIS Pegboard

El año pasado en septiembre escribí una entrada sobre cuánto me gustaban los paneles de herramientas para decorar la casa y en IKEA parece que han escuchado mis deseos y han creado el sistema de tableros SKÅDIS como solución para tener nuestras cosas ordenadas y al alcance de la mano.

Todavía no están disponibles en España pero por lo que he podido ver en las páginas de otros países hay varios tamaños de tableros que pueden combinarse entre sí y distintos sistemas de sujeción así que es posible personalizar el tablero según nuestras necesidades. 

No os imagináis las ganas que tengo de que llegue el nuevo catálogo de IKEA.

In Septebmer last year I wrote a post about how much I liked pegboards for home decoration and it seems that someone at IKEA has listened my wishes and they have created the SKÅDIS pegboard system as a solution to keep our things both well organised and near at hand.

They are still not available in Spain but from what I've seen in websites from other countries there are several sizes of pegboards which can be combined as well as different fixing systems so it is possible to customise the pegboard according  to our needs.

You can't imagine how eager I am to receive the new IKEA catalogue.

Ikea hacks # 3 - Funda de ganchillo florero ENSIDIG / ENSIDIG vase crochet cover

Estoy segura de que el florero ENSIDIG es uno de los superventas de IKEA y que ha sido el protagonista de muchas fiestas como botella de leche de estilo vintage (de hecho en España debe estar agotado porque ya no aparece en su página web).

Afortunadamente en su día me hice con tres botellitas y, aunque todavía a día de hoy no tengo muy claro qué hacer con ellas, su diseño me encanta y no pierdo la ocasión de experimentar con ellas.

Mi primera prueba ha sido una funda de ganchillo de inspiración romántica para decorar la botella de leche, algo muy sencillito pero que le da un toque especial.

I am sure that ENSIDIG vase is one of  IKEA's bestsellers and that it has been the main attraction of many parties as vintage style milk bottle (in fact it seems to be sold out in Spain as it no longer appears on their website).

Luckily I bought three of them bottles in its day and, even if to date I am still not sure what to do with them, I love their design and I don't miss the opportunity to experiment with them.

My first test has been a romantic inspired crochet cover to decorate the milk bottle, something very simple but which adds a special touch.

INSTRUCCIONES

Hilo: Algodón mercerizado nº 5

Aguja: Aguja de ganchillo nº 5 (1.5 mm)

Punto utilizado: Filet crochet (podéis ver un tutorial en español aquí y otro en inglés aquí).

Pasos:

• Montar 90 puntos de cadeneta y unir los puntos para seguir trabajando en circular.
• Hacer un punto bajo en cada punto (90 puntos).
• Seguir el diagrama que se indica a continuación utilizando la técnica de filet crochet, dibujando un corazón en los cinco puntos centrales.
• Una vez terminado el diagrama, hacer un punto bajo en cada punto y cerrar pasando el hilo por el último punto (90 puntos).

INSTRUCTIONS

Yarn: Mercerised cotton nº 5

Needle: Nº 5 crochet hook (1.5 mm)

Sitch used: Filet crochet (you can find a tutorial in English here and another one in Spanish here)

Steps:

• Cast on 90 chain stitches and join the stitches to start working in the round.
• Make one single crochet on every stich (90 stitches).
• Follow the chart above using filet crochet technique, drawing a heart on the five stitches in the middle.
• Once you have finished the chart, make one single crochet on every stitch and close by pulling the yarn through the last stitch (90 stitches).

Inspiración: Flamenco / Inspiration: Flamingo

El verano pasado la tendencia la marcó la piña  y para mí este año el protagonista del verano es el flamenco, no hago más que verlo por todas partes y me gusta en todas sus facetas.

Por lo que he podido averiguar en Internet no es una tendencia reciente y no me explico cómo no me había enterado hasta ahora.

Para compensar mi despiste me declaro fan absoluta de los flamencos, de su elegancia y de su precioso color rosa y no puedo dejar de pensar en cuánto me gustaría tener la imagen de un flamenco presidiendo una de las paredes de mi casa.

Last summer pineapple was a hot trend and for me this year the main character of the summer is the flamingo, I keep seeing it everywhere and I like it in all its aspects.

As far as I have discovered in Internet it is not a recent trend and I can't explain myself how I didn't know it until now.

To compensate my distraction I declare myself a total fan of flamingos, their elegance and their pretty pink colour and I can't stop thinking how much I would love to have a picture of a flamingo presiding one of the walls of my house.

Inspiración / Inspiration : Protea

En el mes de agosto os conté aquí que había plantado unas semillas de protea que había traido de mi viaje a Sudáfrica y ahora es cuando deberían florecer.

Si ya entonces tenía mis dudas sobre mi habilidad con la jardinería, os puedo confirmar que mis pobres proteas no van a florecer nunca porque este invierno salieron volando un día de viento junto con el mini invernadero de IKEA en el que estaban.

Por suerte es una flor que se utiliza mucho para ramos de novias y decoración de bodas así que siempre podré disfrutar de ellas en foto.

¿No os apetece llenar la casa de estas flores tan bonitas?


Last August I told you here that I had planted some protea seeds that I brought from my trip to South Africa and now they should be blooming.

If back then I had doubts about me having a green thumb, I can confirm you that my poor proteas will never bloom as this winter they were blown away on a windy day with the little IKEA greenhouse where they were.

Luckily this flower is used a lot for bride bouquets and wedding decor so I can always enjoy them through pictures.

Ikea hacks # 2 - Funda de ganchillo taburete BEKVÄM / BEKVÄM stool crochet cover

Siguiendo con la sección de Ikea hacks  que inauguré con estos bonitos lápices, hoy os propongo una idea muy sencilla para hacer con trapillo: una funda de ganchillo para el taburete BEKVÄM de IKEA.

Hace tiempo que tengo el taburete en mi habitación y aunque nada más comprarlo le dí una capa del tinte BEHANDLA, me parecía que le faltaba algo para integrarse con la decoración.

Así que decidí hacer una funda con trapillo para darle un toque más personal.

Para ello he partido del patrón básico del "Sunburst Granny" (podéis ver las instrucciones de cómo hacerlo aquí) y he ido añadiendo filas de ganchillo para ajustarlo al tamaño del taburete.

Me gusta mucho el resultado final y creo que hacer la funda con trapillo ha sido un gran acierto porque se complementa a la perfección con el aire rústico de la madera.

Tengo el mismo taburete en la cocina así que ya estoy buscando un nuevo diseño para que tenga su propia funda a juego con la decoración.

Following with the  Ikea hacks  section I started with these pretty pencils, today I suggest you a very easy idea which you can make with zpagetti: a crochet cover for IKEA BEKVÄM stool.

I have the stool in my bedroom a long time ago and although I painted it with the BEHANDLA paint  just after buying it, it seemed like something was missing to match with the decoration.

So I decided to make a zpagetti cover to customise it with a personal touch.

In order to do so I've started from the "Sunburst Granny" basic pattern (you can see the instructions to make it here) and I've added some crochet rows to adjust it to the the size of the stool.

I like the final result very much and I think that making the cover with zpagetti was a wise decision as it complements perfectly with the rustic look of wood.

I had the same stool in the kitchen so I am already looking for a new design so it has its own cover to match with the decoration.

Ikea hacks # 1 - Lapiceros y washi tape / Pencils and washi tape

Soy una gran fan de IKEA y uno de los motivos por los que me gusta tanto es porque sus artículos pueden ser interpretados de muchas maneras diferentes.

Por eso hoy estreno la sección "IKEA Hacks" donde os iré mostrando como he adaptado a mi gusto algunos de sus objetos.

Voy a empezar con una idea muy sencilla que está al alcance de cualquiera y que incluye un elemento conocido por todos/as: los lapiceros de IKEA.

Estoy segura de que la mayoría tenéis alguno por casa, así que siguiendo esta idea que he visto en Pinterest  podéis personalizarlos con washi tape.

En mi caso podría decirse que es un doble hack porque tres de los rollos de washi tape son de IKEA (aunque en su web sólo he encontrado la cinta FRAMSTÄLLA de lunares rosas).

Es una manualidad para niños muy fácil  para que puedan hacer sus propios lapiceros personalizados

Ya sabéis, en vuestra próxima visita IKEA no olvidéis coger algún lápiz de más.


I am great fan of IKEA and one of the reasons why I like it so much is because its items can be understood in many different ways.

That's the reason why today I start the "IKEA Hacks" section where I will show you how I adapt to my liking some of their articles.

I will start with a very simple idea that anyone can do and which involves an element which is widely known: IKEA pencils.

I am sure that most of you have some at home, so following this idea I saw on Pinterest you can customize them with washi tape.

In my case I could say it is a double hack as three of the washi tape rolls are from IKEA (although I only found the pink polka dots FRAMSTÄLLA tape in their web).

It is a very easy DIY for children so they can have their own custom pencils.

You know, the next time you visit IKEA don't forget to pick some extra pencils.
