De compras en Ginebra - Le Rouet

En la planificación de mi viaje a Ginebra no podía faltar una tienda de lanas pero, para mi sorpresa, no parece que haya una comunidad tejedora muy activa en la ciudad.

De hecho, sólo conseguí encontrar información sobre "Le Rouet", una mercería situada en el barrio de Carouge.

Desgraciadamente, cuando visité esta zona de Ginebra era domingo así que como era de esperar la tienda estaba cerrada pero aún así me acerqué a echar un vistazo.

Por lo que pude ver a través del escaparate, la tienda es bastante grande y tienen mucha variedad de ovillos de marcas como Katia, Phildar, Lang... así como libros y artículos de mercería.

No os puedo contar mucho más, pero si alguna vez vuelvo a Ginebra intentaré visitar la tienda de verdad.

When planning my trip to Geneva I couldn't miss a yarn shop but, surprisingly, it seems that there is not a very active knitting community in the city.

In fact, I only could find information about  "Le Rouet", a haberdashery located in Carouge neighbourhood.

Unfortunately, I visited this area of Geneva on a sunday so just as I had expected the shop was closed but even so I came over to take a look.

From what I was able to see through the window, the shop is quite big and they have a wide range of yarn of brands such as  Katia, Phildar, Lang... as well as books and haberdashery items.

I can't tell you much more but if I ever go to Geneva again I will try to visit the shop for real.

De compras en Berlin / Shopping in Berlin - Fadeninsel

Esta semana cierro el ciclo de mi ruta lanera por Berlín con Fadeninsel  una tienda de lanas que se encuentra en el barrio de Kreuzberg, uno de los más pintorescos de la ciudad.

En este caso se trata de una tienda que me recordó a las mercerías tradicionales con una gran variedad de ovillos, libros y complementos, así como algunos productos de punto ya terminados como  gorros, bufandas y chales hechos a mano.

La verdad es que ante tanta variedad me costó elegir qué llevarme y al final opté por unos ovillos de "Gomitolo Merino"  de Lana Grossa  que me llamaron mucho la atención por su colorido (mi idea es hacer un gorro con ellos, pero todavía no tengo pensado ningún patrón en concreto).

Y... hasta aquí llega mi aventura por las tiendas de lana de Berlín, aunque en realidad hay muchas más que espero poder visitar algún día.


This week I am closing the cycle about my yarn route around Berlin with Fadeninsel, a yarn shop which is located in  Kreuzberg district, one of the most picturesques of the city.

In this case it is a shop that reminded me of traditional haberdashery shops with a great variety of yarns, books and accesories, as well as some finished knit garments such as handmade hats, scarves and shawls.

Honestly, with so much variety it was difficult to choose what to buy and I finally got some "Gomitolo Merino" skeins by Lana Grossa that really caught my attention with their bright colours (my idea is to make a hat with them, but I haven't thought about any particular pattern yet).

And... that's all about my adventure in Berlin yarn shops, although actually there are many more that I hope to visit some day.

De compras en Berlin / Shopping in Berlin - Wollen Berlin

Siguiendo con mi ruta lanera por Berlín, es el turno de hablaros de Wollen Berlin  que se encuentra en el barrio de Friedrichshain y que yo había planificado entre la visita al East Side Gallery  y el mercadillo de Boxhagener Platz.

En realidad, cuando llegué todavía no habían abierto así que no pude entrar pero ya que estaba allí aproveché para curiosear y hacer algunas fotos desde el escaparate.

Aunque en mi foto no se ve muy bien, es una tienda bastante grande con varias estanterías con ovillos, libros y todo tipo de accesorios. La verdad es que me hubiera encantado entrar así que si alguna vez vuelvo a Berlín volverá a estar en mi lista de sitios para visitar.

Por el momento sigo su cuenta de Instagram  donde he visto que organizan muchos talleres y actividades para tejer en grupo por lo que es muy interesante si se va a estar un periodo más o menos largo en Berlín.

P.D: Cuando visité Loop  en Londres y también estaba cerrado

Continuing with my yarn route around Berlin, it is the turn to talk about  Wollen Berlin which is located in Friedrichshain suburb and that I had planned between the visit to the  East Side Gallery and  Boxhagener Platz flea market.

In fact, when I arrived it wasn't open yet so I couldn't come in but as I was already there I seized the moment to nose around and make some pictures from the shop window.

Although in my picture it is a little bit difficult to see it, it is quite a big shop with several shelves with yarn, books and all kind of accesories. Actually I would have loved coming in so if I ever come back to Berlin it will be on my list of places to visit again.

At the moment I follow their  Instagram account where I've seen that they organise many workshops and activities to knit together so it is very interesting if you are going to stay a sort of long period in Berlin.

De compras en Berlín / Shopping in Berlin - Knit Knit Berlin

En mi entrada sobre mi viaje a Berlín ya os adelanté que es una ciudad con muchas tiendas de lana así que en las próximas semanas os iré contando las que visité.

Para empezar, os voy a hablar de Knit Knit Berlin   una tienda de lanas preciosa que se encuentra en la zona de Berlin Mitte que, casualmente, era la misma zona en la que estaba mi hotel.

Desde que planifiqué el viaje tenía muy claro que era uno de los sitios a visitar ya que hace tiempo que sigo su cuenta de Instagram  desde hace tiempo y me encanta porque su estilo encaja muy bien con las cosas que me gustan.

La tienda no es muy grande pero tienen mucha variedad de lanas en colores preciosos, aunque a mí los que más me llamaron la atención fueron unos ovillos de tweed  de Lana Grossa Lala Berlin  que acabé comprando junto con una bolsa de tela de Knit Knit Berlin  para llevar las labores.

Los ovillos me encantaron por el contraste entre el beige y los toques de color pero también me parecieron el souvenir perfecto al llamarse "Lala Berlin" y, gracias a Internet, ahora sé que es una marca de moda muy famosa en Alemania que también produce lanas de muy buena calidad.

Mi idea es hacer un cuello de lana con ellos porque es una lana tan bonita que quiero hacer algo que pueda usar mucho aunque todavía tengo que acabar un par de cosas antes de empezar a tejer con ellos.

Muy pronto os seguirá hablando de más tiendas de lanas en Berlín...


On my post about my trip to Berlin I already told you that it is a city with many yarn shops so in the following weeks I will be telling you about the ones I visited.

To begin with, I am going to talk about  Knit Knit Berlin a really nice yarn shop which is located in Berlin Mitte area which, by chance, was the same area where my hotel was.

Since I planned the trip I was very sure it was one of the places I had to visit as I've been following their Instagram account for a while and I love it because their style fits really well with the things I like.

The shop is not very big but they have a wide variety of yarn in beautiful colours, although what really caught my attention were some  Lana Grossa Lala Berlin tweed skeins that I bought together with a  Knit Knit Berlin project bag in fabric.

I loved the skeins because of the contrast between beige and different colour shades but also I thought they were the perfect souvenir as their name was "Lala Berlin" and, thanks to the Internet, now I know that is a very famous fashion brand in Germany which also produces high quality yarns.

My idea is to make a wool cowl with them because it is such a beautiful yarn that I want to make something I can  use very often although I still have to finish a couple of things before starting to knit with them.

De compras en Madrid / Shopping in Madrid - Black Oveja

En mi viaje a Madrid no podía faltar una visita a una tienda de labores así que aprovechando la cercanía con el barrio de Malasaña me acerqué a Black Oveja , una tienda que llevaba queriendo conocer desde que la inauguraron ya que su blog fue uno de los primeros que descubrí cuando empecé con todo esto.

Nada más llegar me preocupé un poco porque la persiana del escaparate estaba bajada y pensé que estaba cerrado (ya me temía otro disgusto como el de Loop  en Londres) pero por suerte no fue así.

Cuando entré me sorprendió porque pensaba que la tienda era más grande pero igualmente resultaba muy acogedor estar rodeada de tantas telas y ovillos de colores.

Esta vez no había hecho ninguna lista de la compra previa así que, como era de esperar, estuve un rato mirando y mirando sin saber qué comprar. Me encantaron los conos de algodón y de verdad que me hubiera llevado unos cuantos pero no era lo más práctico porque todavía me quedaba un largo día de turismo por Madrid... 

Al final opté por un pack  de fat quarters  porque las telas bonitas son otra de mis debilidades y no es algo que compre con tanta frecuencia como ovillos de lana y algodón.

Lo que más me gusta de estas pequeñas compras es que de esta manera asocio cada proyecto con un viaje y es algo muy especial.

During my trip to Madrid I couldn't miss a visit to a crafts shop so considering its proximity to Malasaña quarter I went to Black Oveja, a shop I've been wanting to go to since its opening as their blog was one of the first ones I found when I started with all this.

As I arrived I was a little bit worried as the shop window shutters were down and I thought it was closed (I was fearing another disappointment as the one I had at  Loop in London) but luckily it wasn't like that.

When I came in I was suprised because I thought the shop was bigger but equally it was really warm to be surrounded by so many colourful fabrics and skeins.

This time I didn't have any previous shopping list so, as it was to expect, I spent a long while looking and looking without knowing what to buy. I loved cotton yarn cones and I would have really taken some of them but it was not the most practical thing to do as I still had a long day of tourism in Madrid...

Finally I chose a fat quarters pack because beautiful fabrics are also one of my weaknesses and it is something I don't buy as often as wool and cotton skeins.

What I like the most about this little purchases is that this way I link each project with a trip and it is something very special.

Happy (Crafting) Weekend

Lo prometido es deuda y, aprovechando que el fin de semana es perfecto para hablar de labores, os enseño con más detalle los ovillos que compré en La Lainerie  en Burdeos.

La verdad es que me costó un poco decidirme pero al final opté por algo diferente a lo que ya tengo en mi interminable "stash " : unos ovillos de lana bien gordita "Phil Express"  de Phildar ; mohair "Silkhair Lusso"  de Lana Grossa  con un toque de brillo muy chulo; y, siguiendo con el brilli-brilli, unos ovillos de algodón "Twinkle"  de Scheepjes  en tonos rosas y otro verde de "Sparkle" by Claire.

Aunque tengo alguna idea todavía no tengo muy claro qué voy a hacer con ellos pero en cualquier caso no creo que los utilice antes de otoño así que estoy segura de que para entonces encontraré el proyecto perfecto para cada ovillo.

A promise is a promise and, as the weekend is perfect to talk about crafts, I am showing you in detail the skeins I bought in  La Lainerie in Bordeaux.

Honestly it took me a while to decide but at last I opted for something different to what I already have in my neverending stash: some skeins of really chunky wool  "Phil Express"  by  Phildar; "Silkhair Lusso"  by  Lana Grossa mohair with a very cool touch of sparkle; and, continuing with this glittery thing, some "Twinkle" by  Scheepjes cotton skeins in pink tones and another one  "Sparkle" by Claire in green.

Although I have some ideas I still don't know very clearly what I am going to do with them but anyway I don't think I will use them until autumn so I am sure I will find the perfect project for each skein by then.

De compras en Burdeos / Shopping in Bordeaux - La Lainerie

En mis vacaciones por Francia no podía faltar una visita a una tienda de lanas así que el día que estuve en Burdeos aproveché para conocer (¡por fin!) La Lainerie  una tiendita preciosa que había visto muchas veces en Instagram.

A pesar de que no tiene letrero, su escaparate no deja lugar a dudas de las maravillas que se pueden encontrar en el interior: libros y revistas de labores, ovillos de todos los colores y materiales, telas preciosas... Como digo yo, una de esas tiendas de las que me llevaría todo,

Además de disfrutar de todas las cosas bonitas que me rodeaban tuve la suerte de charlar un rato con una dependienta y (creo) la dueña de la tienda. Algo que añadió todavía más encanto a mi visita ya que, aunque mi francés está un poco oxidado, fue muy agradable hablar de labores e incluso intercambiar algunas ideas muy inspiradoras.

Así que, si tenéis pensado viajar a Burdeos no desaprovechéis la oportunidad de conocer esta bonita tienda o por qué no, podéis empezar a planear una escapada a la capital francesa del vino con turismo lanero incluido.

Obviamente en mi visita me hice con algunos ovillos que ya os enseñaré con más detalle...

During my holidays in France I couldn't miss a visit to a yarnshop so the day I went to Bordeaux I took advantage of the opportunity to (finally!) know  La Lainerie a cute wee shop I had seen many times in  Instagram.

Although it doesn't have any sign, its shop window leaves no doubt about the wonders you can find inside: craft books and magazines, skeins in every colour and material, beautiful fabrics... As I usually say, one of those shops where I would buy everything.

In addition to enjoying all the pretty things that surrounded me I was so lucky to chat for a while with a shop assistant and (I guess) the shop owner. This added even more charm to my visit as, although my french is a little bit out of practice, it was very nice to talk about crafts and even exchange some really inspiring ideas.

So, if you are thinking about travelling to Bordeaux don't miss the occasion to visit this beautiful shop or why not, you can start planning a short break to the french capital of wine with wool tourism included.

Obviously during my visit I bought some skeins that I would show you more in detail later...

De compras en Nueva York / Shopping in New York - Purl Soho

He soñado con visitar Purl Soho desde que empecé a tejer. De hecho, aprendí a tejer porque quería hacer todos los patrones e ideas que veía en su Web.

Así que en mi viaje a Nueva York era visita obligada y una vez que estuve allí casi no podía creérmelo. Allí estaban su mural decorado con telas Liberty  en aros de bordar, sus estanterías llenas de madejas de colores, sus kits de labores...

Si por mi fuera me hubiera pasado todo el día en la tienda, viendo con calma cada madeja, tela, libro... y decidiendo qué comprar pero como no viajaba sola no podía ser. Así que en base a mi experiencia en otros viajes (en los que he visitado tiendas que me encantan sin ser capaz de decidir qué comprar) hice los "deberes" antes del viaje y preparé mi lista de la compra con antelación.

Puede parecer una tontería, pero a mí me resulta muy práctico. Por un lado tengo un montón de ovillos sin utilizar en casa y por otro no tengo mucho tiempo para tejer, así que no me apetecía comprar algo que se fuera a quedar almacenado indefinidamente. Por eso unos días antes del viaje eché un vistazo a su página, decidí qué diseño iba a hacer y anoté qué es lo que tenía que comprar y creo que es lo mejor que pude hacer.

Para ser sincera tenía claro desde el principio que iba a comprar algo de Knit Collage porque sus hilos son mis favoritos porque son muy especiales y aquí no es fácil encontrarlos así que tal y como era de esperar... una maravillosa madeja de Wanderlust se vino conmigo desde Nueva York y se va a transformar en algo muy muy chulo que además se teje súper rápido.

Eso sí, si algún día vuelvo intentaré escaparme sola para dedicar todo el tiempo del mundo a curiosear por la tienda...

I've dreamed of visiting Purl Soho since I started knitting. In fact, I learned to knit because I wanted to make all the patterns and ideas I saw on their Web.

So on my trip to New York it was a must visit and once I was there I couldn't really believe it. There they were their wall decorated with Liberty fabrics on embroidery hoops, their shelves full of colour skeins, their crafts kits...

If it was up to me I would have spent the whole day in the shop, calmly looking at each skein, fabric, book... and choosing what to buy but as I was not traveling alone it couldn't be. So basing on my experience from previous trips (where I have visited shops I love without being able to decide what to buy) I made my "homework" before the trip and I prepared a shopping list in advance.

It may seem a little bit silly, but for me it is really practical. On the one hand I have a lot of  unused balls at home and on the other hand I don't have much time to knit, so I didn't want to buy something that was going to be stashed indefinetely. That's why a couple of days before the trip I took a look at their Web, I decided what design to make and I wrote down what I had to buy and I think it was the best thing I could do.

To be honest I was quite sure since the beginning that I was going to buy something from  Knit Collage as their yarns are my favourites because they are very special and in Spain it is not easy to find them so as it was to expect... a wonderful skein of  Wanderlust came with  me from New York and it is going to become something really really cool which is also knitted very fast.

For sure, if I ever come back I will try to escape alone to spend as much time as I can nosing around the shop...

De compras en Barcelona / Shopping in Barcelona - Fil&Tropia

En mi plan de viaje de Barcelona no podía faltar una tienda de lanas. Tenía apuntadas algunas direcciones que conocía de Internet pero al final acabé comprando en una tienda que descubrí por casualidad.

La tienda se llama Fil&Tropia y está en el Barrio de Gràcia. Pasé por delante de su escaparate y enseguida me llamó  la atención el colorido de los ovillos en las estanterías.

La elección de qué comprar era un poco difícil porque tenía muchas opciones (DROPS,  Lanas Alpaca, Hilaturas LM...) pero no tenía en mente ningún proyecto concreto así que al final escogí mis colores favoritos: unos ovillos Puha Plus  en un amarillo precioso y otros Morandi  en tonos rosas.

Aunque intento no comprar muchas lanas porque todavía tengo una buena reserva, traer algún capricho de mis viajes es un pequeño lujo que me encanta. ¿A alguien más le pasa?

In my travel planning for Barcelona I couldn't miss a yarn shop. I had written down some addresses I knew from Internet but I finally ended buying in a shop I found by chance.

The shop is called  Fil&Tropia and it is located in Barrio de Gràcia. I passed in front of their shop window and the lively colours of the skeins in the shelves inmediately caught my attention.

The choice of what to buy was a bit difficult as I had several options ( DROPS, Lanas Alpaca, Hilaturas LM...) but I didn't have any specific project in mind so I finally chose my favorite colours: some beautiful yellow  Puha Plus balls and another Morandi ones in pink tones.

Although I try not to buy too many wool because I still have quite a big stash, bringing some treats from my trips is a small luxury that I love. Does it happen to anyone else?
