This month of April has been the month of the clouds and the rain and it allowed me to finally say goodbye to winter with the  Illume hat and cowl set, a pretty crochet scarf and my colourful "Blue Bell Hill Scarf".

In addition, I have forgotten the skeins and knitting needles for a while with my resolutions of starting to sew again and of practising a new technique, punch needle embroidery with the help of the wonderful book of Laura Ameba.

Last, I have started a new blog section about interesting plans for the weekend where "La Ruta de los Duendes" (the Route of the Elves) was my first suggestion.

I am looking forward to the beginning of the month of May and to be able to feel that it, really, is spring.

Have a nice weekend!

Craft Books ♥ 9 - Laura Ameba

Ahora sólo me hace falta empezar a practicar...

A couple of years ago I bought a punch needle set which I haven't used yet, something very typical of me...

Since then I've been collecting some ideas I liked on my Punch Needle board in Pinterest and one of the names I saw the most was Laura Ameba, a girl from Chile settled in Barcelona who has conquered Japan with her embroideries where she has published her first book.

Despite the book being written in Japanese only I just couldn't resist not having it in my craft library so since the beginning of the year I have my own copy directly arrived from Japan with a dedication and some surprise gifts included.

Although I don't speak the language it is not difficult to understand the instructions as it includes drawings showing how to make the different types of embroidery stitches and there are some step by step explanatory pictures.

This is the second book arrived from Japan joining my collection (the first one was from my admired eccomin) and I don't think it would be the last one because their craft books are the most beautiful ones.

Now I only have to start practising...

With this post I am starting a new section where I will suggest you interesting plans to make during the weekend with activities related to crafts, lifestyle, decoration... A little bit of all those activities that bring colour to daily life.

My proposal for this weekend is "La Ruta de los Duendes" (the Route of the Elves)  an initiative aiming at raising awareness about a village called Herrera de Caderechas (in the north of Burgos, Spain) through a very original tour which combines the beauty of nature with urban knitting (although maybe in this case "rural knitting" would be more approriate).

The area is traditionally known by the cherry blooming of the Valle de Caderechas, which each year attracts thousands of visitors and, this year, will also include a 7 km walk embellished with coloured pieces of knit and crochet.

According to the organisation the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of april is the perfect date to enjoy this experience in all its splendour so don't miss visiting the Facebook page of the Ruta de los Duendes to know all the details.

Enjoy the experience!

Blue Bell Hill Scarf

This scarf was one of the first projects I started in winter and, actually, I finished it in december but until now I hadn't succeeded in taking pictures I really liked.

As most of the times the idea of making this scarf came from Ravelry, I discovered  Blue Bell Hill Scarf pattern by accident and I thought it was the perfect project to finish a couple of balls of DROPS Alaska I had at homeThey were leftovers of wool I had bought for other projects but the combination of navy blue, grey and lilac seemed to me as made to measure for this scarf.

I am very happy with the result and it brings me the opportunity to show you five different ways to wear a scarf.

Which one do you like the most?

I know that at this time it is not the best moment to talk about scarfs but I didn't want to wait until next winter to show it to you.

Actually it is something a colleague ordered me. After going through my "Accesories" gallery she liked the pattern I used two years ago to make this spring cowl and she asked me to use it to make a scarf.

At first I thought it would take me ages to make it (I like long scarfs) but the truth is I finished it quite quickly. I guess that using bulky yarn helps, but I also feel that crocheting is much faster than knitting

Now there's only one more winter project left to show you and then I will start with spring projects, you can't imagine how eager I am to show you some of the things I've made lately...

Cosas que me gustan / Things I like # 31 - Spring Tags by Minki Kim

Sewing is one of my many pending tasks, I can manage with the basics but I would love to have more time to practise and make many of the things I see on the Internet.

One of my most recent discoveries are these original fabric tags which I find so cute and, at first glance, not too difficult to make.

The one I like the most is the one with the envelope and the hearts because it also uses the freehand embroidery technique which I told you about here.

The maker of these wonders is Minki Kim a true artist who shares her creations in her blog and her Instagram account.

If you like pretty things, you can't not follow her...

Gorro y cuello Illume / Illume hat and cowl

Many of the garments I've knitted for me this winter have been very popular among my friends and colleagues so I have repeated several times the same patterns.

If I have knitted three times the Chai hat, the Illume hat couldn't be less and its third version I made also a matching cowl upon special request of the interested person.

The original pattern includes only instructions to knit a hat but I have to say that it wasn't difficul at all to adapt it in order to get a wool cowl with the same design.

Actually, I think that my experiment came out quite well so I don't discard following the same technique to make wool cowls to match with some of my favorite hats.
