Zero Waste - Recycled Yarn

 

Uno de los objetivos del Proyecto 333  es aprender a ser más sostenible a través de la reutilización de nuestra ropa y uno de los ejemplos que se mencionan en el libro es la iniciativa "Recycled Yarn"  de Misti Nolen .

Su propuesta consiste en convertir prendas de punto "antiguas" en madejas de hilo de distintos materiales de origen natural (lino, algodón, cachemir, lana merino...) que  luego vende en su tienda de Etsy.

La idea me llamó mucho la atención cuando leí el libro porque nunca me había imaginado que pudiera deshacerse una prenda de origen industrial con tanta habilidad como para conservar el hilo intacto y listo para usar de nuevo.

Desde el punto de vista de la sostenibilidad me parece un proyecto muy interesante pero, además, las madejas tienen una presentación tan impecable que no puedo dejar de maravillarme con todo el proceso.

¿No os parece una iniciativa maravillosa?

One of the objetives of  Project 333 is learning to be more sustainable through the upcycling of our clothes and one of the examples named on the book is  "Recycled Yarn" initiative by  Misti Nolen.

Her proposal consists of turning "old" knit garments into yarn skeins of natural fibers (linen, cotton, cashmere, merino wool...) that she later sells in her  Etsy shop.

The idea really caught my attention when I read the book because I had never imagined that it was possible to undo an industrial garment in such a skilled way to keep the yarn intact and ready to use again.

From a sustainability standpoint I think it is a very interesting project but, in addition, the skeins have such a perfect presentation that I can help but find the whole process so amazing.

Don't you think it is a wonderful initiative?

Happy (Crafting) Weekend

Últimamente estoy muy centrada en terminar proyectos olvidados y en dar uso a los ovillos que tengo en casa (sin olvidar el desafío "Make Nine Challenge" ) pero de vez en cuando también tengo flechazos y no puedo resistirme a comprar algún capricho.

Para compensar el momento de debilidad, intento buscar un proyecto concreto en el que poder utilizar mi nueva adquisición y también me sirve como elemento de presión para darme más prisa en terminar lo que tengo en curso.

De momento me está funcionando aunque en mi cabeza siempre hay un pequeño baile de ovillos y patrones buscando la combinación perfecta...

Lately I am very focused on finishing abandoned projects and on using the skeins I have at home (without forgetting the  "Make Nine Challenge") but every now and then I also have a crush and I can't resist from buying a little treat.

In order to compensate my weak moment, I try to find a specific project where to use my new acquisition and I also use it as a pressure element so I will finish quicker my ongoing projects.

At the moment is working out well for me although in my head there's always a little dance of skeins and patterns looking for the perfect match...

Cocoon Summer Sweater

El primer proyecto que he terminado este otoño ha sido el jersey "Cocoon Summer Sweater"  de Pickles  del que os hablé a finales de septiembre.

Como ya expliqué entonces, no estaba en mis planes tejer este diseño pero me gustó tanto cuando lo vi en Instagram  que no pude resistirme.

Cuando lo estaba tejiendo, me recordaba en cierto modo al jersey "Sunday Sweater"  que terminé a finales del año pasado porque los dos siguen la técnica "top-down" y empiezan con una especie de punto canalé ancho, sin embargo el resultado es completamente diferente y tiene un acabado más ajustado.

Mi idea inicial era utilizar el jersey "Cocoon"  para los días de otoño en los que no hiciera mucho frío pero, aunque lo terminé hace ya unas semanas, todavía no he podido estrenarlo porque la temperatura no ha acompañado demasiado. 

La verdad es que me imagino que no podré utilizarlo hasta primavera así que estoy pensando repetir el patrón con unos ovillos de lana para hacer una versión más calentita del jersey.

The first project I have finished this autumn was  "Cocoon Summer Sweater" by  Pickles which I told you about at the end of September.

As I already explained then, knitting this design was not on my plans but when I saw it on  Instagram I liked it so much and I couldn't resist myself.

When I was knitting it, it reminded me somehow to  "Sunday Sweater" which I finished at the end of last year because both of them follow the "top-down" technique and they start with some sort of wide rib stitch, however the result is completely different and the finishing is more tight.

My first idea was to use  "Cocoon" sweater warm autumn days but, although I already finished it a couple of weeks ago, I still haven't been able to wear it because the weather didn't keep up very much.

The truth is that I guess that I won't be able to use it until springtime so I am thinking about repeating the pattern with some wool skeins to make a warmer version of the sweater.

 

Mini calabazas de ganchillo / Mini crochet pumpkins

 

Desde que empezó el otoño no he parado de pensar en calabazas de colores y al final no he podido resistirme y he hecho las mini calabazas de ganchillo de las que os hablé a principios de mes.

La verdad es que después de publicar esa entrada encontré más modelos de calabazas que me gustaban (algunos los compartí en mi cuenta de Instagram ) pero ya que os había propuesto esta idea me pareció que lo mejor era probarla yo misma.

Tal y como pensaba es un DIY muy rápido de hacer y viene muy bien para utilizar restos de ovillos porque no se necesita mucha cantidad de hilo, así que es un proyecto perfecto para hacer limpieza de "stash".  

En el tutorial original sugieren utilizar algodón pero yo utilicé unos restos de lana y en realidad se puede usar cualquier tipo hilo, incluso creo que mezclando distintas calidades y grosores puede quedar muy bonito.

De momento sólo he hecho tres calabazas pero me gustaría ampliar la familia incluyendo distintos modelos de punto y ganchillo en distintos colores para construir mi propio mini bosque de calabazas.

¿Qué os parece la idea?

Since autumn began I haven't stopped thinking about colour pumpkins and finally I couldn't resist myself and I've made the mini crochet pumpkins I told you about at the beginning of this month.

The truth is that after publishing that post I found more pumpkin designs that  I liked (I shared some of them on my  Instagram account) but as I had already suggested this idea I thought that it was better to test it myself.

Just as I thought it is a very quick to make DIY and it's  good to use skeins leftovers because you don't need a big amount of yarn, so it is a project which is perfect for stash clearance.

In the original tutorial they suggest using cotton yarn but I used som wool leftovers and actually you can use any type of yarn, I even think that mixing different qualities and thicknesses would be really pretty.

At the moment I have only made three pumpkins but I would love to increase the family including different knit and crochet designs in different colours to make my own mini pumpkin woods.
